Hearing protection equipment
- Personal hearing protection should be considered only as a last resort when all other methods of control have been explored, or while permanent solutions are being sought
- Personal hearing protection must be used where necessary to eliminate or reduce the risk to hearing
- Users or their representatives should be involved in the selection
- Users must receive appropriate instruction, information and training in the use of the selected protection, and be monitored in its use
Personal hearing protection should:
- Control the risk
- Not over-protect
- Be comfortable and suitable for the environment
- Be properly used
- Be worn at the right time
- Be readily available to all who need it
- Be properly maintained
People should be trained in their specific duties.
